Welcome to the Hive! A blog about how Postural Restoration Institute and mind-body techniques can heal your body and transform your life.



Hello! My name is Brenda Becher and I have been a physical therapist for 27 years. I took my first PRI course in 2005 and since then my career has been dedicated to the science of Postural Restoration Institute (PRI) techniques. Because PRI is such a powerful rehabilitation tool, patients started coming to me with increasingly complex and chronic conditions as word spread about this extremely effective physical therapy technique. My work with patients with chronic pain, chronic fatigue, EDS, hypermobility, and POTS lead me on a journey to explore the nervous, respiratory, digestive, and immune systems, and the role of patterned mobility, sleep and respiration in chronic disease.


In addition, since I was a child my personal goal has been to live to healthy 100 years of age. This has lead me a quest to study how others have done so successfully. I am a big fan of Dan Buettner's research in this area. I am also drawn to Deepak Chopra's work interpreting the wisdom of Ayurvedic medicine, Sharon Salzberg's insightful work on meditation, and Thich Nhat Hanh's practice of mindfulness to name of few of my favorite thinkers. Speaking of favorite thinkers, honestly, don't get me started on Leonardo da Vinci.


This blog is my attempt to share this knowledge with the world, and guide you on your path to wellness and whole body healing. At the Hive, I hope you find the knowledge to heal your mind and body in the collective of like-minded others that have joined together in their pursuit of a healthier, happier life.


I will create one to two new blog posts each week for you to explore. These posts will contain information on specific PRI exercises, mind-body techniques, ancient wisdom and current research to curate your wellness journey.


You also have the option to schedule a consultation with me at anytime to create a customized rehabilitation and wellness plan for your specific needs. We will meet in person via a secure video telehealth connection. Here's what you can expect at your first visit; you will have the opportunity to tell me about your health history and goals, I will do an examination of your alignment and movement patterns including how you breathe, I will share those findings with you, and then together we will create a plan to restore your body balance, mobility and vitality.



A Word on the Posture Restoration Institute


If you are not familiar with the Postural Restoration Institute, I urge you to head to the PRI website for additional information and resources for providers and patients alike. I will sum up what they do in their own words. "The Posture Restoration Institute (PRI) is a continuing education institute that was established in 2000 to explore and explain the science of posture adaptations, asymmetrical patterns and the influence of polyarticular chains of muscles." In my 27 years of experience as a movement expert, I have found PRI to be the most effective and powerful tool to treat all acute and chronic orthopedic conditions.


In this blog, I will guide you through the science of PRI, what exercises help with specific conditions, and how to implement those exercises. We will go deep on PRI's understanding of respiration and how to restore full diaphragmatic breathing as this has been pivotal in my treatment of those with chronic disease, and it is a key component of longevity.

At the Hive, we will come together in conversation, community and connection to promote health, wellness, and joy. The old saying of "you are what you eat" is true and now we also know YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK. We will focus on changing your body but that is only half the picture. We must also change your mind. There are many tools to do so. We will start by being flexible with our thoughts, open to learning and celebrating our successes.
